RED ROCK TRIBAL TRIBUTE - MAGDA

What’s that donkey doing here?
The donkey is a zebra dear!

Close your eyes and see its stripes
Touch it and you will need wipes

The zebra’s spot marks Red Rock Tribal
When you’re at a loss, it offers survival

It’s not a tribe, it's not red, has no rocks:
it sells all things African (except maybe socks!)

Steven and Jules and imagination -
that makes for a stunning combination

From our KZN all the way to Ethiopia
is where they source their cornucopia

They sell such cute recycled tins
when you buy these, environment wins

They have antiques, really old
crafted by African artists bold
and they have everything in between
to gladden heart from child to queen

The shop is open five long years
and merits at least five long cheers

Come and see, expand your mind
come and buy, to your friends be kind

ENTRY 1 - MELVIN LEWIS (Chicago)

A phoenix, gravel and pebble path
marks the outline of a metal store,
beckons visitors from a brown road
with Shona sculptures waving

Yellow glass shines,
gathers red stones,
glows from copper soil,
holds the mist of Cape Point

Angels protect memories of cow sheds,
on a rocky lane,
beneath a weathered farm house
it sustains motion and music

Bellowing frogs, tin pan hats,
dung bettles, with doors of twine coasters,
orange, green, black and white baskets
entice your eyes to enter a Red Farm in Cape Peninsula

Dolls speak with necklaces,
in white, red and blue beads,
blankets warm bare feeet on
windy coastal nights,
wire figures have tea parties

A recycled iron horse guards the corral
where kaleidoscopes,
pin wheels colored bowls and containers shimmer,
fall clouds simmer in the southern valley

The Sun dances when the clouds
are clear over Table Mountain,
the boulders, coral have not claimed new souls,
ships moving around the point of spears

Red Rock Tribal
teases the eyes
our brain is massaged

Near the Cape of Good Hope
it nutures African arts
supports rural dreams

ENTRY - CATHY WANVIG (Singapore)

I found the horse that does not neigh

followed the tortoise up the pathway

Entered the magical Aladdin's Cave

And to the cashier, my credit card gave

A trip to Cape Town is never complete

Without a visit, it can't be beat.

I was visiting from Singapore

And finding delights galore

If I'd had more space in my luggage

I would have been charged extra tonnage!

Talented artists transform Trash to Treasure

Proudly South African value we can measure

I've decorated my home, at my leisure

Here are some of the things that bring me pleasure

Standing guard - the lookout - a Tin Meerkat

Africa underfoot - a Chip Packet Floor Mat

On the wall, a Beaded Lady, wearing a traditional hat

On the table - a stunner of a runner! - Can't beat that!

Red Rock Tribal - you have to see -

Disappointed - you won't be

A repeat customer you have in me

I think it's time for a shopping spree!
